Tree Program

We are happy to announce that all of our trees for our 2020 event have been purchased through Outdoor Supply Hardware in San Jose at a considerable discount. We appreciate their support of our event.
Tree Sales Have Ended
Christmas in the Park will be a drive-thru event to be held at History Park San Jose this year due to the Covid-19 situation and the safety of the community. There will be some changes to the tree program to ensure all participating groups are safe and to maximize the visibility of the tree decorations.
  • We will be adding two additional tree decorating days and an additional un-decorating day to reduce the number of people that could potentially be at the park at the same time.
  • DECORATION DATES: Decorating days are limited to the following dates and times (You will be assigned a date to decorate from the dates below):
    • Sunday November 22, 2020 (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. PST);
    • Monday November 23, 2020 (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m PST):
    • Tuesday November 24, 2020 (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. PST);
    • Wednesday November 25, 2020 (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. PST);
    The foregoing dates are the exclusive dates and times during which trees may be decorated. There are no exceptions.
  • You will receive an email in November that will have your assigned decorating day and un-decorating day. We ask that you honor the day provided as it is our way of making decorating safe for everyone.
  • We are reducing the number of trees to be decorated
  • There will be three categories of trees this year (see below)
  • A maximum of four (4) people will be allowed to decorate or un-decorate the tree.
  • We suggest that you involve other group members in the ornament creation so that they feel a part of the process.
  • Masks must be worn at all times while decorating and un-decorating trees.
  • Social distancing standards must be followed at all times while decorating and un-decorating trees.

General Guidelines

PARKING: Park in lot K2 on Senter road (see map below for parking lot location). Check-in will be near this entrance. Please bring a hand-truck or wagon if you have a large amount of decorations to transport.

CHECK IN: Please check-in at the Christmas in the Park tent/booth to receive your tree number and to obtain your LED lights. See map below for parking and check-in location.

OBTAINING YOUR TREE: You will get your tree assignment when you check-in for decorating. The tree number corresponds to the actual tree you will be decorating. A map will be available at the park. Please do not ask to switch trees.

DECORATIONS: Ornaments should be well made, wind and water-resistant. Avoid using food (i.e., pasta) and paper as ornament decorations, as they will not withstand inclement weather. Keep in mind your tree will be approximately 7 to 8 feet tall. It is recommended that you have a minimum of 80 imaginative ornaments for your tree. We recommend the ornaments be large so they can be seen from the vehicles. Christmas in the Park will provide 3 strands of LED lights. Use sturdy wires to attach ornaments to your tree to prevent them from being blown or knocked off the tree. Groups will need to bring their own tools such as pliers, scissors, small stepladder, etc., to help with the decorating process. Unfortunately, Christmas in the Park will not be able to provide any tools or ladders at that time. Please remember that this is "tree decorating". We will not have room around your tree for large decor items or cutouts. Painting and flocking of trees is strictly prohibited.

RESTRICTIONS: Decorations must not contain any inappropriate or offensive language and or symbols. No profanity or inappropriate or offensive decor is allowed on tree decorations.

CONTEST: There will be a Best Overall Tree Decoration contest. All Community, and Sponsor Trees will be considered for this contest and the winning tree, as selected by a panel of judges will have a ribbon/sign placed on the tree distinguishing the winner during the event.

JUDGING: Judging scores are based on (1) Presentation of Theme, (2) Originality/Artistic Skill, (3) Creativity (unusual use of common materials), (4) Total visual appeal with minimum of 80 wind and rain proof ornaments.

SIGNAGE: Christmas in the Park will provide an identification sign for your organization that will be placed at the base of your tree. No other signs will be allowed.

ADULTS: Please be sure members of your organization are closely supervised, especially if you plan to bring small children to the park.

CLOSING OF EVENT: Christmas in the Park ends on Sunday, January 3, 2021. If you would like to keep your decorations, you must un-decorate your tree on your assigned day (Monday January 4th, Tuesday January 5th or Wednesday January 6th) between 9am and 5pm. Any decorations left after 5pm on January 6th will be discarded.
