Southwest Airlines® Becomes Presenting Sponsor of the San Jose Tradition Christmas in the Park

SAN JOSE, CA – November 7, 2017 – Christmas in the Park is excited to announce Southwest® as presenting sponsor of “Christmas in the Park,” a San Jose tradition that has occupied Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park during the holidays since 1980.

"We’re thrilled with Southwest’s support, sustaining an event that brings half a million members of our community together to celebrate the holiday spirit. We’re also grateful that Southwest flies from SJC to more destinations than Rudolph and the rest of the flying reindeer” said San José Mayor Sam Liccardo.

This is the first presenting sponsor for Christmas in the Park since the non-profit took full control of the event in 2011.

“Southwest is excited to play a part in connecting Californians to an important community tradition in San Jose,” said Kelsey Boardsen, Experiential Marketing and Sponsorship for Southwest Airlines. “Investing in San Jose, a high priority city for Southwest, is incredibly important.”

"Southwest has stepped forward to help support Christmas in the Park not just for 2017, but also for 2018 and hopefully beyond that as well," said Christmas in the Park Executive Director Jason Minsky, who has been leading the organizations efforts since 2012. “We are really looking forward to adding to our guest experience and Southwest is really helping to make that happen” added Minsky.

Date: Friday, November 24 – January 7, 2018

Time: Opening ceremonies start at 6:00pm on the 24th and the event is open from 9:00am until midnight every day.

About Christmas in the Park

Christmas in the Park is a 501c3 non-profit organization that manages a holiday event in the 2.5 acre Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park in Downtown San Jose. The event consists of more than 550 decorated Christmas trees, over 40 animated displays/exhibits, visits with Santa, nightly entertainment and more all free of charge for the community.
